All about the details

pintucks · tonal stitching

Every piece here was made for one person. Yours starts with a conversation about the occasion, the fabric and the story you want stitched into it.

The craft

The beauty is in the detail.

Intricate metallic threadwork, sequins and tonal embroidery, each stitch placed by hand to build dimension, pattern and movement. Traditional Indian embroidery, interpreted through a contemporary lens. Crafted by hand. Made to be noticed.

Deer motif in white threadwork

The deer

Grace, beauty and good fortune, set among floral vines and paisleys.

Tiger motif in tonal embroidery

The tiger

Strength, courage and quiet power, softened by the blooms around it.

Elephant motif in silver sequins on mustard silk

The elephant

Metallic threadwork on rich mustard, the house signature.

Parrot motif in silver sequins on olive

The parrot

A delicate play of silver sequins for a soft, luminous texture.

Bespoke

How a piece comes together

Four visits, or fewer if you are travelling. We work around the wedding calendar, so tell us the date first.

01

The conversation

The occasion, the venue, what the family is wearing, what you do not want. An hour at the studio, or on a call if you are outside Delhi.

02

Fabric and motif

Fabric chosen by hand: Munga tussar, silks, cottons for the day. The embroidery is drawn for you, then sampled before a single stitch goes on the garment.

03

Measure and toile

Measured in person. A first fitting on the cut garment, then adjustments, then the embroidery goes on.

04

Final fitting

The finished piece, tried on and adjusted one last time. Delivered pressed and boxed, with a note on how to care for it.

Timelines and pricing depend on the piece and the embroidery, and are shared at the first conversation. Wedding season books out early. If the date is close, write to us anyway; we will tell you honestly what is possible.

The studio

Ambika Khanna

Carishma began in Delhi in 2020 as a small studio making occasion wear for the men in the family, and grew through exhibitions, FICCI FLO showings and the recommendations of clients who were stopped and asked where the jacket was from.

Crafted in pure Munga tussar, sourced directly from the original weavers.

Everything is designed by Ambika and made by a small team of karigars who have worked with the house for years. Nothing is bought in. Nothing is made until it is ordered.
